A number of public libraries have begun providing ebooks for their residents. Honestly, this means a lot of different things.
We have a number of ebooks available on the website for research. If you go to http://access.gale.com/ebooks/gett42668/ You will see what we have available for people to do research or for yourself to do research.
However, some of the books available at other libraries are actually complete texts which you can download and read via your PDF (usually adobe) reader on your computer or IPAD.
Some libraries have worked out a pricing structure to make available actual popular materials which can be read on their Nook (Barnes and Noble’s) reader. Note: this is not the Kindle (Amazon). This is an area will have to investigate further as we move into our library’s future.
What it will finally look like or be like we will have to see. But this is a big new wave which will be coming to public libraries in the near future.

Follow up to my article, although we do not have any downloadable ebooks available here at the library, this is a nice article about how you can find some free ebooks for your reader

ebooks appear to be part of our future, whether we like it or not. I don't know if I can give up the feel of a book in my hands. However, the big sellers like Borders and B&N are in financial trouble. Perhaps Google's new ebook service may help. I think the big sellers may begin to make more money on their ereaders than on books! How will libraries accomodate to this new world?
